Communications and Messaging
The leading request from actors in the field of human rights is for help with communications strategy and messaging. To meet these needs, the Fund has provided communications support for the following initiatives:
- Public opinion research on human rights in the U.S.
- Regional trainings on effective communication about the human rights frame with both policymakers and the general public.
- A message guide on general and issue-specific human rights messaging.
The Fund has also provided support for U.S. human rights advocacy work that uses new media and video, as well as related trainings for advocates.
Ultimately, grants in this area aim to increase knowledge about and awareness of human rights in the United States. Examples of support include communications strategies associated with core US human rights themes or specific U.S. human rights projects, the development of messaging related to the same, case studies of successful human rights campaigns or initiatives, and the use of alternate and popular communication tools to reach broader audiences.
